What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a type of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) that adds an extra layer of security to your account.
MFA requires users to provide more than one form of verification when logging in:
- Something you know: like your password
- Something you have: like a smartphone, security key, or token
- Something you are: like a fingerprint, voice, or retina scan
At Folium Hosting, your password is the first factor of authentication. While important, passwords alone are vulnerable to theft or compromise. 2FA ensures that even if someone obtains your password, they cannot access your account without the second factor.
All Folium Hosting accounts are strongly recommended to enable 2FA for maximum security.
Setting Up 2FA on Mobile Devices
Download an authenticator app
Install a trusted authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator on your smartphone.
Scan the QR code
Open the app and scan the QR code displayed in your Folium Hosting 2FA Setup Flow.
Save your backup code
You will receive a backup code(s). Store them securely. The codes are essential if you lose access to your mobile app, we cannot guarantee account recovery without them.
Log in with the code
Use the one-time code generated by the app whenever you log into your account.
Setting Up 2FA on Computers
- Chrome Users: Download the Authenticator extension .
- Windows, Mac, or Linux Users: Visit Authy or EnteAuth and select your operating system to download the app.
Once installed, follow the same steps as for mobile devices: scan the QR code and save your backup code.
